1. (C) Foreign Ministry Deputy Director General for Arms
Control and Disarmament Ahmet Muhtar Gun told us February 14
that he appreciated being in close contact with DAS Karin
Look and other U.S. officials on the way forward on CFE. Gun
said he understood the U.S. had prepared a revised draft of
the action-for-action non-paper following recent discussions
with the Russian Federation. Gun reported that he had asked
for a copy of the non-paper in Brussels on January 30 but had
been advised the U.S. was not prepared to release it to
allies at that time. Stating that he was acting on the
instructions of MFA Undersecretary Apakan, Gun officially
renewed his request that we share the latest U.S. paper with
Turkey.
2. (U) Please advise how post should respond to Gun's
request.
