(C) We delivered reftel demarches to MFA Nonproliferation and
Disarmament Deputy Director General Ahmet Gun on October 23.
Gun said that Turkey has taken a decision to abstain on the
vote regarding the resolution on de-alerting nuclear weapons.
On depleted uranium, Gun noted that Turkey had abstained on
a similar resolution last year; he predicted Turkey would
take a similar approach this year, although a formal decision
has not been reached. He undertook to review the resolution
on "Global State of Nuclear Disarmament" and "Developments in
Information and Telecommunications in the Context of
International Security" and inform us of Turkey's position
once formal decisions have been taken.
