1. (C) In the absence from the country of Foreign Minister
Bashir, Charge delivered ref A demarche to Acting Foreign
Minister (and regularly, Minister of State for Media and
Communication Affairs) Nasser Joudeh February 19. Joudeh
said he would consult with others in the GOJ and convey any
feedback when available.
2. (C) COMMENT: As described Ref D, although senior GOJ
officials recognize the logic of our approach, they are
waiting for upcoming OIC and Arab League summits to try and
hammer out a common position, and failing that, as a gateway
for independent action. Post will follow up in coming days
to see how their position develops, and to gauge whether GCC
intentions/actions (Ref F) have any impact on the Jordanian
stance. END COMMENT.
