1. (C) Charge followed up on ref B demarche July 20 with
Foreign Minister Salah Al-Bashir. Bashir, who had just
returned from an overseas trip, did not offer a substantive
comment but promised to study the issue. On July 23, Jamal
Al-Shamayleh, director of the FM's private office, offered
few specifics, but told PolCouns that the FM agreed that the
NAM should not allow the Iranians to use it for political
cover, and that Jordan would not fall into any "traps."
