SUBJECT: DELIVERY OF DEMARCHE ON IMPLEMENTING DUAL-USE ITEM
PROVISION OF UNSCR 1803 TO JORDAN

REF: STATE 29464

Classified By: DCM Daniel Rubinstein; reasons 1.4 b,d.

(C) On April 7, Poloff delivered reftel demarche and
non-paper outlining the U.S. position on UNSCR 1803 to Khaled
Takhayneh, head of the Foreign Ministry's Disarmament
Section. Takhayneh noted that Jordan was not a member of the
Nuclear Supplier Group and was not a proliferation risk, as
it had no potential dual-use items that might be transferred
to Iran. He cited Jordan's shared concern about the negative
role Iran played in the region, and took note of the
resolution and the importance the United States places on
implementing UNSCR 1803.
