SUBJECT: Ghana: Special Self Help Final Obligation
Report FY07, FY06 and FY05 projects


1. PostQs USD 70,000 Special Self-Help Fund (FY07)
allocations have been awarded to 12 projects listed
below. Grants were allocated under three elements:
Water Supply and Sanitation (4 projects); Social
Services (5 projects); and Social Assistance (3
projects). Geographic distribution of projects by
region is as follows:- Ashanti (2); Brong Ahafo (1);
Central (2); Eastern (3) Northern (1); Upper East
(1); Volta (1); Western (1). All 12 projects target
deprived communities in great need of the benefits
each project will provide. An additional USD 20,000
PEPFAR Fund (FY07) allocation has been awarded to 2
projects using the SSH Model to support the fight
against HIV/AIDS.


2. For the projects that will construct school
blocks, post obtained written confirmation of the
GOGQs commitment to provide teachers for the
additional classrooms. Some of the approved
projects will complete unfinished construction.
Post sought to ensure that previously uncompleted
construction was due to a projectQs reliance on
ongoing community fundraising rather than from any
mismanagement.

handicraft training center. Association of Civil
Society Organization is a community based
organization at Dunkwa-on-Offin that trains school

handicrafts. The majority of the beneficiaries of
this project are Muslim youth.

Status: Fully liquidated. Nearing completion.

Description of Activity: Construction of ferro-
cement tanks to harvest and distribute water. Sugo
N-nya Biahegu WomenQs Association, in conjunction
with the community, is constructing ferro-cement
tanks to harvest and store rain water. They
currently rely on streams and ponds that dry up
during the dry season.
Estimated Number of Beneficiaries: 600
Status: 80 percent work done. Nearing completion.

The following is a summary of FY06 projects:
USD 70,000 fully disbursed for 11 projects. The
grants have been fully disbursed. Nine projects have
been completed. Two other projects are nearing
completion and two were liquidated during this
reporting period.

19 projects were funded; 18 are fully liquidated and
17 completed; 1 project has been cancelled.
