1. (C) On July 25, the Ambassador took advantage of a
previously scheduled meeting between Under Secretary for
Economic Affairs Jeffery and Nigerian Foreign Minister Ojo
Maduekwe to present reftel demarche concerning the Iran issue
at the forthcoming NAM Foreign Ministers' meeting. The
Ambassador also provided a non-paper drawn from reftel, and
stressed that it was important for the NAM to call on Iran to
comply fully with its international nuclear obligations and
cooperate fully with the UNSC and IAEA. Iran should also be
urged to give a clear and positive response to the P-5s
recent updated package.
2. (C) In response, Maduekwe welcomed that the USG was now
participating directly in the discussions with Iran, and said
he would study the points in the non-paper.
