(S) On July 29, POLCHIEF and TDY ECONOFF met with MFA Director for
European, American, and Oceanic Affairs Ali Al Zarouni to deliver
reftel nonpaper regarding attempts by North Korea's primary weapons
trading firm, Korean Mining Development Corporation (KOMID), to
acquire a visa for one of its representatives to travel to the United
Arab Emirates. POLCHIEF explained this individual's association with
KOMID's assistance to Iran's missile program, and noted that his
travel to the UAE could pose proliferation risks. Zarouni took the
urgency of the matter on board and promised to pass the information
to appropriate UAE officials.
