(SBU) On October 30, UAE Ministry of Economy Director for Trademarks
Fatima Al Hosani told EconOff that reftel GCC Trademark legislation
has been "stopped" and referred back to the GCC Trademark Committee
for review. Al Hosani said that the Committee would have to meet
again, probably in early 2009, to restart consideration of the draft
law. Al Hosani, who was familiar with USG comments on the draft
law, suggested USTR engage the GCC committee, which includes
representatives from every GCC state as well as the Secretariat,
directly about specific concerns. (Note: Al Hosani is the UAE
