SUBJECT: UNSCR 1747/OECD: DEMARCHE TO PROMOTE A COMMON LINE
RESTRICTING EXPORT CREDITS TO IRAN

(SBU) On April 19, Econ Officer delivered reftel demarche to
Kenneth Ryan, Policy 0fficer for Iran at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT). Ryan confirmed that the New
Zealand government was analyzing UNSCR 1747 and had shared
the contents of the demarche with the Export Credit Office
within NZ Treasury Department. He stressed that New Zealand
had not extended export credits to Iran and is internally
formulating guidance for the Treasury Dept. to implement
UNSCR 1747. Ryan assured Post that the New Zealand Mission
to the OECD had been briefed on points raised in reftel and
is prepared for the semi-annual plenary at the OECD next
week.
