1. (C) Pol External Chief delivered reftel demarche on the
Fatah-Hamas national unity government on February 9 to Pawel
Herczynski, MFA EU Department Deputy Director. Herczynski
commented that the U.S.views were fully consistent with
Quartet principles, and therefore they reflected EU policy as
well. He said that Poland strongly supported the Roadmap and
Quartet efforts and would continue to advocate these
principles within the EU. He undertook to ensure that FM
Fotyga was aware of the U.S. position before the February 12
GAERC.
