SUBJECT: AUSTRIA SUPPORTS USG POSITION ON UNCITRAL
REF: STATE 163356
On December 6, EconPolOff delivered reftel demarche to Thomas
Loidl, MFA Director of International Economic and
Environmental Law. Loidl stated that Austria agrees with the
U.S. position that no new rules of procedure are required for
UNCITRAL. Moreover, the principle of consensus has worked
well in the past and should remain the basis for decision
making within the Commission, according to Loidl. The
current system of participation of non-governmental
organizations should also be maintained, he said.
