TAGS: SO PGOV IMO KCRM UNSC
SUBJECT: FURTHER ON SOMALI PIRACY

REF: USUN 963

Classified By: Ambassador Jackie Wolcott for Reasons 1.4 b/d.

(C) In response to the reftel demarche, SYG Ban transmitted
to the Security Council letters (faxed to IO/PSC) from the
International Maritime Organization (IMO) requesting Security
Council attention to the issue of piracy off the coast of
Somalia. We therefore expect the issue to be raised during
previously scheduled Security Council consultations on
November 19 on the situation in Somalia. Department may want
to prepare USUN's intervention accordingly.
