1. (SBU) In response to a demarche (reftel) delivered by Post, the
Mongolian Foreign Ministry informed us on November 21 that Mongolia
"will be in a position to support" the re-election of the U.S.
candidate, Mr. Pierre-Richard Prosper, to the United Nations
Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD).
P.Gansukh, Acting Director of the MFA's Multilateral Cooperation
Department, told us that although a final decision will only be made
in early January, he is "quite sure that Mongolia will be in a
position to support the candidacy of Mr. Prosper."
