1. (S/NF) On June 18 at approximately 1300 local time, the
Government of Tunisia accepted custody of two Tunisian
nationals (Lufti Bin Swei Lagha (Partial ISN 660) and
Abdullah Bin Omar (Partial ISN 721) formerly detained at the
US Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
2. (S/NF) COMMENT. During the meetings to arrange the
transfer logistics, Ministry of Interior Director General for
International Relations Tahar Fellous (the GOT POC for the
transfer) informed EmbOffs that the GOT is prepared to accept
all of the Tunisian detainees, provided that they are
transferred "in small groups." Based on the success of this
first transfer, Post expects the GOT will cooperate with
future USG efforts to repatriate the remaining ten Tunisian
detainees. END COMMENT.
