demarche June 15 to MOFA Central and South Eastern Europe
Division Principal Deputy Director Tatsuya Machida. Machida
said he was "very grateful" for the information and that it
would provide an "excellent reference" for Japan's first-ever
meeting with the "GUAM" (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and
Moldova) organization in Baku. Deputy Foreign Minister
Mitoji Yabunaka will represent Japan in the meeting, showing
the government's commitment to the "Arc of Freedom and
Prosperity" policy articulated by Foreign Minister Aso in
November 2006. Machida finished by reiterating his gratitude
for the non-paper, saying he looked forward to more
information sharing after the meeting.
