available.

-- Total textiles production: Information not currently available.

-- Total apparel production: Information not currently available.

-- Share of textiles and apparel in total Dutch imports: 3.3
percent

-- Share of textiles and apparel in total Dutch exports: 2.6
percent

-- Dutch exports of textiles and apparel to the U.S.: 273 million
euros ($387 million)

-- Total manufacturing employment: 870,000 people

-- Total textiles, apparel, and leather employment: 22,000 people

2. For several decades, textile and apparel producing industries
have been in decline in the Netherlands. Remaining companies have
mostly outsourced their basic production to low-cost countries,
including China and Turkey. Producers have focused on specialized
"niche" products, including technical and functional textiles, which
are more capital intensive to produce. As a member of the European
Union, the Netherlands complies with EU policies. In general, the
Netherlands is a large importer of Chinese goods, but most of those
goods are intended for re-export to other European countries.
