1. (C) In response to ref A, poloff followed up with MFA
Human Rights Division Policy Officer Sonja van der Meer Jan
25. Van der Meer, who in December provided information (ref
B) on the Netherlands' 13 million Euro Iranian media
diversity program, promised to seek details on an additional
1 million Euro worth of annual human rights and
democratization programming managed directly by the Dutch
embassy in Tehran.
2. (C) Van der Meer expressed interest in details of our own
Iran-related civil society programming. She would appreciate
any details Washington is able to pass, either through the
Dutch embassy in Washington or through The Hague.
3. (C) Van der Meer agreed that information sharing is
desirable, in order to avoid duplication and to learn from
one another. She noted that many funding recipients are wary
about being affiliated with foreign governments - Dutch or
U.S. - and agreed that any shared information should be
protected.
