SENSITIVE BUT UNCLASSIFIED--PLEASE PROTECT ACCORDINGLY.
At a regular meeting with the American Chamber of Commerce's
Board of Directors on November 20, the Ambassador mentioned
the Senate Foreign Operations Bill that would enact a visa
ban and freezing of assets of those Uzbeks allegedly involved
with the events in Andijon. The Board of Directors expressed
concern over the bill, for American companies encountered
many problems when the Uzbek-USG relationship turned downward
in 2006. Some of the larger companies, including
Chevron-Texaco, Nukem and Boeing, have strong lobbyists in
the U.S. and will inform their headquarters of the bill.
