1. (U) Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded
positively to the United States proposal to resume
cooperation with Uzbekistan's Committee for State Border
Protection (reftel).
2. (U) An unofficial translation of the GOU's diplomatic note
No 20/21189 follows:
Begin text: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic
of Uzbekistan presents its compliments to the Embassy of the
United States of America and in reply to your diplomatic note
No 640/07, of August 28, 2007 has the honor to inform that
the GOU agrees with the proposal of the USG about the
resumption of cooperation within border security programs.
Information about the Uzbek representatives to the joint
working groups will be provided separately. The Ministry
avails itself of the opportunity to renew to the Embassy the
assurances of its highest consideration. End text.
