1. (C) A Boeing official told econoff that on May 30 Uzbek
Airways signed the contract to purchase two 787s (reftel).
Additionally, the Uzbeks contractually agreed to purchase ten
737s at a future date. The German Embassy confirmed Uzbek
Airways signed a deal with Airbus on June 1 to purchase six
A-320s.
2. (C) Comment: For political balance, the GOU decided to
split the order, although we have often heard many Uzbek
Airways officials say they prefer Boeing to Airbus.
