1. (U) On June 1, we delivered reftel points to Haidi
Kanamae, the Head of Food Safety Department and Kylli
Johanson, Chief Expert of the Food Safety Department at
the Ministry of Agriculture.
2. (SBU) Ms. Johanson explained that although Estonia's
Gene Technology Committee (GTC),which serves as an
advisory expert group, has certified the stacked
biotech corn varieties to be safe, Estonia will not
vote in favor of the varieties at the upcoming meeting
on June 8 because of the unresolved labeling issue.
According to Johanson, once the labeling issue is
resolved, Estonia will have no reason to vote against
the biotech corn varieties.
