1. (U) This message contains an action request in para 4.
2. (SBU) Drawing on reftel, P/E Chief delivered points on
U.S. objectives for the January 26 NATO Informal Foreign
Ministerial to MFA State Secretary Igor Ilievski on January
18. PEChief conveyed USG gratitude for Macedonia's troop
contributions in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and for the
recent GOM decision to lift most of its caveats on troops
serving in both places.
3. (SBU) Ilievski confirmed that FM Milososki plans to attend
the January 26 Ministerial. He pointed out that Macedonia
has no plans at present to augment its troop contribution to
ISAF (Macedonia is in its 8th troop rotation to Afghanistan,
with 151 soldiers deployed). He did ask, however, how
Macedonia would go about coordinating a limited personnel
contribution to a PRT in the event the government chose to
pursue that option.
4. (U) ACTION REQUEST: Post requests Department guidance on
how the GOM would coordinate a personnel contribution to a
PRT in Afghanistan to support the civil-military offensive
described in reftel.
