1. (U) This is an action request. Please see para 4.
2. (SBU) Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided
the following diplomatic note concerning its candidacy for
re-election to the Council of the International Maritime
Organization (IMO). Note: This is the second diplomatic
note we have received about Singapore's re-election
(reftel). End note.
3. (SBU) Begin text of MFA diplomatic note:
MFA/IOD/00770/2007
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of
Singapore presents its compliments to the Embassy of the
United States of America and has the honour to refer to the
Note No. MFA/IOD/00292/2007dated 18 April 2007.
The Ministry has the further honour to remind the Embassy
of the proposed exchange of support whereby Singapore will
support United States of America's candidature to the
Council of International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in
2007 in Category "A" in exchange for United States of
America's support for Singapore's re-election to the IMO
Council in Category "C" in 2007. If the Government of the
United States of America agrees to the abovementioned
proposal, a written indication would be highly appreciated.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of
Singapore avails itself of this opportunity to renew to
Embassy of the United States of America the assurances of
its highest consideration.
