1. (C) On December 9, Bosnian authorities deported Algerian
native Atau Mimun, who was stripped of Bosnian citizenship by
the Citizen Review Commission (CRC). The CRC was established
in 2006 to review the status of individuals who had
fraudently obtained Bosnian citizenship between 1992 and
early 2006. It has stripped citizenship from more than six
hundred people, including many former mujahedeen, who now
face deportation. Mimun's deportation was the first CRC
deportation to be carried out by Bosnian authorities. Mimum,
who had abandoned his Bosnian family members, did not contest
his deportation to Algeria.

2. (C) The Foreigner Affairs Service (FAS) carried out
Mimun's deportation without the Ministry of Security's
cooperation (or interference). Working methodically, FAS
seized Mimun's newly acquired Algerian passport and worked
with Turkish authorities to arrange his transport to Algeria.
One daily, Nezavisne Novine, gave a factual account of
Mimun's deportation on December 14. It carried the statment
of FAS Director Dragan Mekic who said that Mimun posed a
threat to Bosnia's security because "he is connected with
people who are under surveillance for terrorist activities."
