1. On April 20, 2006, U.S. Marshals will return Wilfredo
Antonio Toribio Reyes to the United States to stand trial in
the State of New Jersey for multiple counts of robbery and
conspiracy to commit robbery, as detailed in indictment
number 05-05-0558-I (filed May 2, 2005) and indictment number
05-06-0885-I (filed June 23, 2006). As laid out in the two
indictments, Toribio served as the "driver" for a gang of
individuals involved in armed robberies in the Clifton and
Patterson, New Jersey areas.
2. Following the issuance of a Dominican arrest warrant based
on a November 29, 2006, U.S. Government request for
extradition, Toribio was apprehended April 13, 2007, by
officers of the Dominican National Directorate for Drug
Control's Fugitive Unit (DNCD). Toribio made a knowing,
voluntary, and intelligent waiver of his right to challenge
his extradition and testified to such before the Criminal
Chamber of the Dominican Supreme Court on April 16, 2007.
3. The return of Toribio marks the 16th Dominican-national
fugitive returned through or in lieu of extradition
proceedings during CY-2007 (the 7th for FY-2007).
