ITS ICAO CANDIDACY
Embassy received the following dipnote (unofficial
translation) from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 5,
2007. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs requests U.S. support
for the Dominican Republic's candidacy as a member of the
Board of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
for the period of 2007-2010. The voting will take place at
the ICAO assembly in Montreal Canada in September 2007.

Dipnote number: 4001
22 FEB 2007
The Secretariat of State for Foreign Relations
respectfully greets the Embassy of the United States of
America, and is pleased to inform it that the Dominican
Republic has presented its candidacy as member of the Board
of the International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO, for
the period of 2007-2010, whose elections will be held in the
framework of the XXXVI Assembly of ICAO, which will take
place in Montreal, Canada, in September of 2007.
The Board of ICAO is made up of 36 States, elected for
a mandate of three years divided into three categories. The
Dominican Republic aspires to become a member of the Board in
category III, which groups together those countries not
included otherwise, whose designation guarantees greater
world-wide geographical representation within the
organization.
In order to guarantee the representative nature of the
Latin American Group in ICAO, the Latin American Civil
Aviation Commission, LACAC, approved the list of States that
will run for positions to form part of the Board, listed as
follows: Group I: Brazil; Group II: Mexico, Argentina, and
Venezuela; Group III: Ecuador, Uruguay, El Salvador, and the
Dominican Republic.
For these reasons and appealing to the excellent
relations between both governments, the Dominican Republic
requests the valuable support of the illustrious Government
of the United States in favor of this aspiration.
The Secretariat of State for Foreign Relations wishes
to take this opportunity to reiterate to the Embassy of the
United States of America its assurances of its highest esteem
and consideration.
To the Honorable Embassy
of the United States of America
