(C) Legatt confirmed with the Italian INTERPOL liaison office
that Italy will send a substantial delegation to the INTERPOL
General Assembly in Morocco November 5-9. Poloff consulted
with Argentine Embassy poloff Marina Mantecon Fumado to
discuss Argentina's efforts to secure Italian support for the
issuance of INTERPOL Red Notices for suspects in the AMIA
bombings. Mantecon Fumado said MFA contacts have conveyed
Italy's strong backing on the Red Notice issue, and Argentine
FM Taiana raised it personally with FM D'Alema when he was in
Rome October 16-17. Given the positive Italian response, she
did not think a separate message from the USG was necessary
in Italy. Mantecon Fumado said the Argentine Embassy in Rome
also covers Albania, Malta, and San Marino, and has sent
written requests for support to those governments but has not
been able to deliver the message in person. She said that
USG assistance with those countries would be welcome.
