1. (C) On the margins separate meeting, MFA A/S level
official for bilateral affairs, Signe Jansone, told
PolEconOff that the Iranian Embassy in Stockholm approached
the GOL to suggest a visit to Latvia by Iranian Deputy
Foreign Minister Saeed Jalili for November. Jansone
elaborated that the proposed meetings would discuss
"bilateral and regional issues." She asked for USG thoughts
on how to handle this request. Unless otherwise instructed
before October 4, Post intends to tell the GOL that we think
this is a bad idea--and urge the GOL not to pursue any
meetings with Jalili.
