1. (C) Responding to reftel points on cross-group
stationing, Department of Foreign Affairs and International
Trade (DFAIT) NATO Deputy Director Isabelle Poupart said
Canada would join us in our effort to get the First Option
adopted. She noted, however, that, like the U.S., Canada
could live with the Second Option or the Third Option if that
was what it took to get agreement. Poupart said she would
make sure the Canadian Mission to NATO was aware of Ottawa's
view of the matter, and encourage already close collaboration
with U.S. counterparts.
