(U) Embassy presented reftel points to the Norwegian
Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense on the morning of
June 6. MFA Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Director Siren
Eriksen repeated the MFA's previous statements supporting the
USG's concern over the Russian approach to revising the
Treaty on Conventional Forces in Europe. Eriksen said that
the MFA's Director of Security Policy, Kare Aas would
represent Norway at the High Level Task Force on June 7 and
had been informed of the U.S. position. Both the MFA and MOD
welcomed the USG's emphasis on a unified Alliance approach
and praised the U.S. willingness to address Russian concerns
in a calm and detailed manner. MFA and MOD did not have
specific comments on the U.S. points.
