1. (U) This telegram contains an action request in Paragraph
3.
2. (U) The Embassy received a diplomatic note from the GOC
requesting USG support for the candidacy of Mrs. Myrna Y.
Kleopas, Ambassador, to the UN Committee Against Torture
(CAT),at the elections in Geneva on October 8, 2007. The
note says Ambassador Kleopas is a highly qualified candidate
due to her experience and expertise in the legal and human
rights fields. A copy of Ambassador Kleopas's curriculum
vitae was enclosed with the diplomatic note. The Embassy
will forward her CV to EUR/SE. Earlier, the Embassy had
delivered to the MFA reftel points and diplomatic note, which
sought GOC support for reelection of USG candidate Felice
Gaer to the CAT. We received no response.
3. (U) The Embassy requests Department guidance in
responding to the diplomatic note.
