1. (U) Poloffs July 24 delivered reftel non-paper to Interior
Ministry Permanent Secretary Lazaros Savvides and MFA
Multilateral Affairs Attache Doros Venezis. Savvides (the
GOC's interagency anti-TIP coordinator) told Poloffs that the
GOC has started work already on the five recommended measures
and that one of the five has been implemented with President
Tassos Papadopoulos's July 13 signing of a new, comprehensive
anti-trafficking law. Savvides was upbeat about the
possibility that most of the five recommendations may be
implemented in the next eight months.
2. (U) In the near future, Ambassador will underline USG's
TIP-related suggestions with the newly-appointed Interior
Minister.
