(C) Poloff conveyed July 5 reftel A points to MFA Near East
Affairs Attache Dionysis Dionysiou. Dionysiou immediately
discussed same with MFA Political Director (P equivalent)
Ambassador Euripedes Evriviades. Dionysiou replied that, if
Cyprus has surplus stocks of 105mm tank and 155mm howitzer
rounds, it is "unlikely to provide these" to the Lebanese
Armed Forces (LAF) due to internal political concerns (read:
the presence of Turkish Forces on the island demands that the
Greek Cypriot National Guard stockpile). He did, however,
stress that Cyprus has just given 10,000 Cypriot Pounds
(approximately USD 23,000) to the LAF for fuel, and further
noted that the GOC has committed to provided 30,000 Cypriot
Pounds (approximately USD 69,000) to the UN Relief and Works
Agency (UNRWA) flash appeal to aid Palestenians displaced in
Lebanon (reftel B).
