SUBJECT: THE CORRECT NAME FOR THE CAPITAL OF CHAD

REF: SECSTATE 52607

Please note that the name of the capital of Chad is no longer
Fort Lamy. The name was changed in 1973 by President
Tombalbaye to N'Djamena. While our cable address seems to
have caught up with changing times, we note that all State
HR/personnel communications such as travel orders,
notifications of Tenuring Board meetings (reftel),etc.,
still refer to "Fort Lamy" (or, in some cases "Fort Lamy
(Ndjamena)." We kindly request that the correct name be used
for all State Department communications.
