Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yusef bin Alawi on
August 29 to issue a public statement supporting the recent
communique of senior Iraqi officials announcing agreement on
drafts of key legislation and mechanisms for shared decision
making. Bin Alawi responded that Oman welcomed the agreement,
but did not plan on releasing its own statement affirming
the communique. Rather, bin Alawi continued, Oman would work for
a joint statement by the GCC supporting the Iraqi initiative
during the GCC Foreign Ministers meeting in Jeddah on September
