1. (U) On May 30, the Mexican Ministry of Finance issued a
press release supporting the nomination of Robert Zoellick as
President of the World Bank. Early on May 30, the Embassy
had delivered reftel demarche to the Mexican Secretariats of
Finance, Foreign Affairs, and Economy. The Finance Ministry
immediately thanked us for the background information on Mr.
Zoellick.

Declaration on the Nomination of Robert Zoellick for the
Presidency of the World Bank

Mexico resolutely supports the nomination of Mr. Robert
Zoellick as candidate for the Presidency of the World Bank.

Mr. Zoellick will bring to the Bank a combination of decisive
leadership, an impeccable professional career, extensive
international experience, proven capacity in administrating
large, complex institutions, as well as a clear commitment to
developing countries.

Mexico offers its congratulations on the nomination of Mr.
Zoellick and promises to work with him if he is chosen by the
(Governing) Board of the Bank, once the selection process has
been concluded.
