Poloff delivered reftel demarche March 6 to the Foreign
Secretariat's (SRE's) Deputy Director General for UN-Related
SIPDIS
Security and Legal Issues Julian Juarez Cardenas. Juarez had
not previously heard of the initiative and said that Mexico
gives priority on issues of nuclear nonproliferation and
nuclear counterterrorism to the NPT, International Convention
Against Nuclear Terrorism, and UNSC Resolutions 1373 and
1540. He added that the GOM supports anti-terrorism
initiatives in principle and said he would review the Global
Initiative with colleagues in the SRE. Juarez agreed to be
in touch with Poloff about the GOM's response.
