1. On May 16, Poloff spoke with Acting Principal Secretary for
Foreign Affairs P.P. Makosholo regarding continued
implementation of UNSCR 1267 (ref A) and Bosnia's candidacy for
the UN Human Rights Council (ref B). Regarding UNSCR 1267,
Makosholo stated that he would encourage a representative of
Lesotho's Permanent Mission to the United Nations to attend the
May 22 briefing on UN efforts to combat terrorism. He pledged
to relay U.S. points on the continued relevance of the 1267
Consolidated List to Lesotho's mission in New York on May 17, as
May 16 is a national holiday.
2. Regarding Bosnia's candidacy for a seat on the UN Human
Rights Council (ref B),he remarked that previous U.S. demarches
on the topic of Belarus' candidacy had been duly noted and
passed to Lesotho's mission in New York. He also stated that
the United States has not been the only nation to deliver a
demarche to Lesotho on the issue, but that all approaches have
been in line with U.S. objectives and none have supported
