1. (SBU) Pol/Econ officer delivered points contained reftel
on 1 October to Yasuko Muller, MFA Director for Asian
Affairs. Muller responded on 3 October by thanking us for
our points and pointing out to us Luxembourg's interventions
in the UNHRC on 2 October. She said that EU thinking about
future actions was still ongoing, but would advise us once a
decision had been reached.
2. (U) COMMENT: Luxembourg is in close step with the U.S.
position on the Burmese Regime's crackdown. In addition to
its actions in the HRC, Luxembourg FM Asselborn also made
statements critical of the Regime's actions in his UNGA
speech on 28 September as well as some harshly critical ones
in an interview in Luxembourg's largest daily newspaper
D'Wort published the same day. END COMMENT.
