1. (SBU) On 29 August 2007 Pol/Econ officer delivered points
contained reftel to the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign
Affairs along with the Department's 15 August public
statement. The MFA was unaware of the situation (NOTE: Our
contacts who normally handle EU Affairs and Middle Eastern
portfolios were both out the office. END NOTE) and thanked us
for this information but had no immediate comment.
2. (C) Follow up by Post on 31 August revealed that
Luxembourg did not intend to make any unilateral public
statements but would likely back an EU public statement if
that was the consensus opinion of EU Member States.
