1. (C) On October 30, EmbOff met with Blazka Kepic, head of
the United Nations System Section of the MFA's Division for
International Organizations and Human Security, to urge
Slovenia to instruct its delegation to the UN in New York to
vote for Mr. Walker in the Independent Audit Advisory
Committee (IAAC) election taking place on November 2. Kepic
stated that the GOS has instructed its UN mission in New York
to vote for Mr. Walker. She noted that the GOS agrees that
Mr. Walker is highly qualified for the position. Kepic also
stressed that Slovenia would highly appreciate U.S. support
for its candidate for the Executive Board of UNICEF in the
elections held in ECOSOC in 2008. She emphasized that human
rights issues, particularly those involving children and
women, are very high on Slovenia's agenda and that its
candidate for the UNICEF position is the only one from an
"East European country."
