SUBJECT: SLOVENIA: DEMARCHE ON U.S. OPPOSITION TO
DE-ALERTING NUCLEAR FORCES RESOLUTION DELIVERED

1. (U) On October 10, EmbOff delivered reftel points to MFA
Security Policy Division Counselor Irina Gorsic. Gorsic
stated she would pass points to Nuclear Nonproliferation
Treaty lead Ambassador Robert Basej. Gorsic reported that
she expects there will be internal EU discussions on the
issue in an attempt to reach a unified position (although she
speculated that this may be an issue upon which the EU will
not be able to secure a consensus). For the time being,
Slovenia has not decided what its position will be but will
inform us once they have reached a decision.
