Per reftel instructions, Embassy Lisbon requested written
confirmation that the Portuguese National Armaments
Directorate has received and is using the Night Vision
Devices (NVDs) in accordance with licenses 05-952997,
05-969376, and 05-969386. Col. Edward Brito Coelho confirmed
the receipt of all of the NVDs listed and reported that
inventory records show the following distributions:
- License 05-952997: 13 units AN/PVS-7 were received by the
Portuguese Navy -- six remain in the warehouse while the rest
were distributed for use in the field.
- License 05-969376: 16 Units AN/PVS-14 were received by the
Portuguese Navy -- eleven remain in the warehouse and the
others were distributed for use in the field.
- License 05-969386: 68 Units AN/PVS-14 were received by the
Portuguese Army and are under the control of the Materiel and
Transportation Directorate (DMT).
