1. (SBU) Ambassador Eastham met with Deputy Minister of
Foreign Affairs Henri Mumba on January 24 to discuss reftel
talking points. Mumba stated that the Minister of Foreign
Affairs had already left for Addis Ababa for the conference,
and that he would pass along our concerns regarding the
Chairmanship of the African Union. He personally agreed that
nothing significant has changed in Sudan over the past year,
and that it is his, "hope that the AU won't give the chair to
Sudan." The Ambassador asked Mumba to highlight this issue
to the Minister as soon as possible. Any further information
will be delivered septel.
