SUBJECT: EVO ANNOUNCES SOY AGREEMENT WITH IRAN
The press reported on April 20 that Bolivia will sign a trade
agreement with Iran to export organic soy under the framework
of the People's Cooperation Agreement (TCP) and the
Bolivarian Alternative for America (ALBA) with Venezuela.
President Morales reportedly announced to a group of soy
farmers in Santa Cruz that the President of Iran told him in
a meeting that Iran would import however much organic soy
Bolivia could produce. Morales added that in the next few
days, representatives of the Government of Iran would visit
Bolivia to finalize the terms of the soy trade agreement.
Morales reportedly argued, "If the U.S. has agreements with
Iran, why shouldn't we?"
