1. (C) The Pivot-GIS Hostage Crisis Group met January 26.
There had been no contact with the hostages in the last 24
hours. A third hostage, Ezekial Akwa, a Nigerian national
employed as a driver by Pivot, has not been mentioned by
either the kidnappers or the hostages in conversations; proof
of life for the driver is being sought. Three members of the
committee were scheduled to travel to Port Harcourt to meet
the Director of the State Security Service (SSS) Alhaji Kola
Adeshina, meet the families of the victims, and brief staff
at Pivot. The committee members planned to talk with the SSS
Director about getting supplies and medicine to the hostages,
as well as to present formal proof of life questions.
