Tuesday, February 20, 2007

-- Columnist Amna Al-Mosawi editorialized in moderate Arabic daily
Al-Rai under the title "Two Hot Wars Are More Than Enough" (02/20):

"The American thief is deaf. This is evident by his ignoring the
Baker-Hamilton report, which recommended dialogue with Tehran and
Damascus in order to reach an honorable solution to the Iraq crisis
and that of the Middle East."

-- Walid Al-Ahmad contended in moderate Arabic daily Al-Anbaa under
the title "The Russian Bear Awakens" (02/20):

"Apparently, the Russian President has had enough of the continuing
American marginalization of Russia in international politics. He
finally shot off a high-caliber surprise last week in Germany."

-- Under the title "Hamas' Election at the Right Time to Save the
Palestinian Cause" Dr. Saud Al-Shammari penned in conservative
Arabic daily Al-Watan (02/20):

"The world, under the leadership of the United States, is pressuring
Fatah to carry out a coup against the Palestinian Government
represented by Hamas as they watch the desecration and destruction
of the Al-Aqsa mosque by the Zionist entity without objection,
condemnation, or shame."

-- Managing Editor of the moderate Arabic daily Al-Rai Ali Al-Roz
commented under the title "Has Death Seen Drunkards Like Us?"
(02/20):

"Yesterday saw the joy of Arab 'revolutionaries' who were
successful in responding to the Iraqi government's claim that the
security plan for Baghdad was a success after just three days of its
implementation. To prove that the 'suiciders' are watching
everything, they set off two explosions that killed nearly 70
innocent civilians who were guilty of shopping or working."

-- In moderate Arabic daily Al-Anbaa YousefQl-Rashed held under the
title "Not Security Alone" that (02/20):

"Horror is still dominating the streets of Iraq. Every person
walking by is a potential suicide bomber.... Iraqi officials should
reconsider their security plan, which today enters its second week
and still burdened with fear of failure."
