SUBJECT: MALAYSIAN CANDIDATE TO EXECUTIVE BOARD OF UNESCO
1. Embassy has received a diplomatic note, number KLN.
08/07, from the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
informing us that Malaysia has decided to present the
candidature of Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, the Minister of
Education, to the Executive Board of the United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
for the term 2008-2011, at the elections to be held during
the 34th Session of the General Conference of UNESCO in
October 2007. The note states that Malaysia would value U.S.
support for Hishammuddin's candidature.
2. Minister Hishammuddin raised the issue of his pending
UNESCO candidature with the Ambassador during their January
29 meeting.
3. Copies of the received documents have been faxed to EAP.
