1. Econoff delivered reftel demarche on December 5 to Rohana Abdul
Malek, International Affairs Division, Malaysian Attorney General's
Chambers. Although Rohana did not have an immediate comment, late
on December 7 (after Embassy COB) she sent the following message to
econoff: "We appreciate the United States' position and
observations on the review of Commission's rules of procedures and
the working methods which are currently adequate for UNCITRAL.
However, we are of the view that the proposal by France also merits
consideration and would like to take the position to study the
matter in greater detail in terms of future needs of member
countries. As such, we look forward to be engaged in future
consultations as we are looking at the long term perspective."
